Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) Satellites
GEO satellites are in orbit 35,863 km above the earth’s surface along the equator. Theses satellites revolve around the earth at the same speed as the earth rotates. These follow the direction of earth. This means GEO satellites remain stationary relative to the surface of earth. GEO Satellites can cover 120° apart the earth . Three satellites are required to cover the whole earth. These satellites are ideal for broadcast and multipoint applications. The large distance of the earth cause of weak signal delay in signal which bad for point to point communication. Further more GEO satellites are centered above the equator so these have difficulty in signal broadcasting near polar regions.
